New Patriotic Party Vice Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has arrived at the home of slain Upper East Regional Chairman, describing him as an "irreplaceable man".
Calling for calm and unity, Bawumia said the party must ensure that the tragic death of Adams Mahama "is not in vain".
Mahama was attacked with acid Wednesday evening and died Thursday morning, an incident that has left the entire nation shocked.
The party's flagbearer who was on party duties in Europe has had to cut short the tour to commiserate with the family.
He is expected to arrive in Ghana, Friday night to lead the party for the funeral of the late Adams Mahama.
While many mourn, others, particularly the party youth, have visited anger on some leading members of the party and called for resignations.
There was an attempted 'coup' at the party head quarters in Accra with some party security taking over the party HQ and describing Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong as persona-non-grata .
Calm has since returned after a relentless crusade for peace by some party leaders.
Joy News' Upper East Region correspondent Albert Sore reports the body of the late chairman will be brought home from the Bolgatanga Hospital.
He is expected to be buried tomorrow.
Addressing family members, the NPP vice presidential candidate called on the party's youth to control their emotions.
"Emotions are high but please control them. At the end of the day the culprits will be arrested and the law will take its course.
"Let us allow the police investigation to take its course. We are keeping an eye on it," he assured.
