A consignment of 997,000 barrels of crude oil has arrived at the Tema Habour for onward delivery to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Public Affairs Manager of TOR, Mrs Aba Lokko, told Joy News on Monday Morning the tanker carrying the crude, which was yet to be berthed, would have its contents undergo some quality control tests before the refinery - which has not refined any oil for over a year now – starts to refine it.
Information available to Joy News indicates the importing company is seeking guarantee it will be paid before discharging the product.
Workers of TOR had been threatening fire and brimstone over the lack of the commodity, accusing some people in high places of deliberately causing an artificial shortage of the essential commodity for their parochial business interests.
The workers claimed some members of the government were profiting from importation of finished petroleum products into the country and were therefore not keen on making crude oil available to the refinery.
The agitations mounted until President J.E.A. Mills called on them last Friday where he gave the assurance that the commodity would come.
By Monday morning since his assurance, the nearly-a-million-barrels consignment has arrived enabling the government and consumers to heave a sigh of relief.
