A non university graduate association has been formed in the country’s civil service to champion the cause of such workers in the service.
Harrison Dzitri, a former civil servant at the Trade Ministry told Joy News the association will “represent and fight for the interest of non university graduate [workers] in the country.”
According to him, persons without university degrees in the civil and public service were grossly discriminated against because they did not hold degrees.
The situation is not any different from professionals with ACCA certificates who he said are better qualified, but are unfairly treated merely on the basis that they have no university degree.
Asked what form this ill-treatment took, Mr Dzitri noted “they are considered as academic drop outs."
He said there is no mode of progression or promotion for those who have no degrees.
He does not understand why a worker employed as a driver will continue to drive all his life, when he could have progressed to become a transport officer.
He dismissed claims that the formation of the association will divide the front of the civil and public service saying it will rather fight for the interest of the non-university graduates.
