Touchscreens have been the biggest techno story of 2009, they're on everything now from phones to MP3 players to radios and computers.
And while this latest Sony Ericsson handset won't match the iPhone in many aspects like applications and general coolness, it certainly has plenty of aces to play.
For starters there is a 12.1 megapixel camera that far outshoots the 3.2 megapixels the iPhone packs.
There's a decent focusing system through touching the screen and a Xenon flash which Sony says is powerful enough to light up the nights but according to GSM Arena (who have had a hands-on experience with the Satio), “the Xenon light is not adequately powerful”.
The star of the show is the 3.5 inch display which delivers great quality (and looks like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic too).
Watching a movie on it is pretty easy on the eye with the 16:9 widescreen although as with all phones, you wouldn't want to sit there staring at the screen for too long.
Sony Ericsson's PlayNow area allows you to download content including games and music and the Symbian operating system does provide access to a fair few apps.
It'll also handle email well, has a built-in Facebook application, an FM radio and a connection to YouTube, that along with Assisted GPS and Google Maps for navigation (which will not work in this part of the world) rank it among one of the best smartphones around.
But memory on the device is low so there is an 8 GB storage card in the box, which can be upgraded to a 16 GB version.
With Sony Ericsson also due to launch a Google Android device any time soon, the firm is beginning to find its mojo again.
