One person is reported dead while several others have been displaced by floods at Aboabo number one in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
Several properties have also been destroyed.
Joy News’ Mohammed Nurudeen was in the community and reports that the person who died in the floods was from Tongo in the Upper East Region.
He came to Kumasi to visit a sick brother at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) when the rains began.
He stayed in the hospital until the rains subsided but was reported to have fallen into a gutter when he stepped out to find a place to sleep.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the KATH morgue.
Meanwhile, some persons have also been trapped in a submerged building since Saturday night..
Earlier, officials of the Ghana Fire Service where called to rescue the people.
Although they are at the scene, they say it will take them close to four hours to have the flood water recede inorder to have access to the building.
Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu attributed the cause of the floods on the illegal development of structures on water ways.
He said such buildings will be demolished to make way for water to flow when it rains.
However, the Assembly man for the area blamed the floods on a gas filling station he claims has been built on a water way and called for its demolition.
Earlier Sunday morning some residents in the community demonstrated against the poor drainage systems there.
Residents blamed the situation on the small bridge in the community.
Mohammed Nurudeen was with the demonstrators and reports that the angry residents set tires on fire on the main road leading to the central business district and several areas in the district.
This impeded the movement of vehicles into the community.
The residents say they have resorted to the demonstration to express their displeasure because community leaders have neglected them for too long.
According to the residents, the only way to stop the constant flooding in the community is to expand the bridge.
One resident, Abubakar Mbah told Nurudeen he lost all his properties when the floods took over his home.
