Teachers and Students of Agona East who distinguished themselves in the 2015/2016 Academic year would be the beneficiaries of an award scheme on Republic Day, July 1.
Deputy Central Regional Minister and MP for Agona East, Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyerr, announced the awards recently, and adds that the move is part of her plans to prioritize the education of the people in her District.
Under the Scheme, 50 teachers who distinguished themselves in English Language, Mathematics, Science, Fante and ICT would be awarded.
Speaking at the launch of the awards at Agona Nsaba, Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyerr indicated that the awards are to motivate teachers to give off their best and also to shore up the performances of students in the District.
“It is very good to reward the hard work of teachers and students to motivate them to go beyond their best. Education is at the top of my agenda for my people and will spend all my fortunes on that. Education is the real deal now. I will do my best to ensure that the performances of students are improved. I urge parents to encourage their wards to play their parts too. Together, we can overturn the fortunes of education in the District”, she stated.
The Deputy Minister is upbeat that setting up the award scheme to reward teachers and students will go a long way to promote a healthier competition that has the proclivity of helping both the students and teachers in her constituency.
The Republic Day that incidentally falls on her birthday is the day she has set aside to make teachers and students proud annually.
