A Police Officer at Peki in the Volta Region is in critical condition at the Hospital after he was shot by armed robbers.
The incident occurred on Tuesday dawn when Corporal Emmanuel Awuah was returning from work.
His wife, Vida Awuah narrated the incident to Joy News.
Vida said her husband was using the Eastern Corridor road where armed robbery is “very high” as criminals lay ambush often on market days.
With Tuesday as a market day, Corporal Emmanuel Awuah had finished his night duty and was on his way home when he saw two cars positioned across the road to create an impression of an accident scene.
It forced the police officer to disembark his car to investigate the scene.
“So he went there to check whether people were hurt only for him to get there, flashes his torchlight and it got on somebody in the bush so the person saw that he was a policeman with a gun. Before he could know, they shot him”.
Emmanuel Awuah sustained gunshot wound in his left thigh.
Vida says this is not the first time her husband has been attacked. In another incident, her husband sustained cutlass wound while effecting an arrest.
The middle finger of his right hand no longer moves, she said.
She has accused the Police administration of negligence and insensitivity towards the welfare of injured officers.
She says the District Commander under whom her husband works is yet to contact her after the attack left her husband hospitalised.
“Everybody is aware of his but nothing has been done. The first one, he wrote to even headquarters but nobody came to ask anything.”
Emmanuel Awuah is on admission at the Volta Rgional Hospital in Ho.
Her wife is relieved by news from the doctors that her husband will make it.
