A woman notorious for illegally facilitating the acquisition of passport for some Ghanaians in the last four years has been busted.
For a passport that costs ¢50 to be acquired in a week, Taiba Amadu 35, charges her clients ¢1,000 to ¢2,000.
Having made enough money from her illegal business, her luck ran out when she collected money from some individuals whom she claims were in the process of facilitating some Ghanaian young girls to work in Saudi Arabia.
Taiba Amadu is now in Police grips having been on the wanted list of the police and passport office for a while.
Some of her victims, Aliu Yahaya and Hassan Amman told Joy News they trusted her to deliver them their passport after collecting money from them.
"She told me she will do a new passport for me. She said she will collect ¢400.00 but I told her I had 350.00 and she collected it and promised me to come for it in two weeks. It's been two months," one of the victims said.
Another victim also said she charged him ¢900.00 if she was going to do a birth certificate in addition to the passport.
In an interview with Joy News' Elton John Brobbey, in the office of the Director of passport, Taiba Amadu admitted to the crime but failed to mention her conspirators who facilitated her illegal activities.
She admitted engaging in an illegal activity but said it was because there was no job for her.
She has however promised not to do that again.
Director of Passport, Alexander Grant Ntrakwa did not also deny the fact that, the bureaucratic processes associated with the acquisition of passport could largely be blamed for the activities of middlemen.
He said his outfit is taking measures to reverse the situation.
