Some 50 bright young students of the Dzorwulu Junior High School have completed a 12 week mentoring programme piloted by the Dream-Believe-Achieve Foundation with support from Vodafone Foundation, Coca-Cola Ghana and Accra Brewery Limited.

The mentoring programme, which aims at instilling in students, fundamental principles and building their core value system, is the brainchild of the Dream-Believe-Achieve Foundation, a group of young professionals with a passion for mentorship led by Ms. Brooke Nuwati, a Communication Consultant at Vodafone Ghana.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the project, Ms. Nuwati reiterated the objective of the project and prayed the mentees to exhibit a high sense of responsibility following their successful completion of the programme.

She also commended the young professionals who sacrificed their time, energy and other resources to make the project a success.

She was optimistic that, the skills acquired by the pupils will yield the necessary fruits as they interact with their peers and community.

She also expressed the team’s sincere gratitude to the sponsors for supporting a worthy cause.

In her welcome address, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Stella Tsekpo said, “the objective of the DBA project is coincidentally in line with the school’s vision which seeks to develop the full potentials of students to positively impact their generation”.

She underscored the importance of this initiative and recounted how evident the success of the programme had been. She said four members of the DBA project had been elected to the top five positions of student leadership in the school.

Following the successful achievements of the project, the school authorities have decided to designate two teachers to maintain the group and continue mentoring them. This way, the impact of the project will be sustained over time and become an integral part of the school’s activities.

Sharing their experiences, two students, Diana Kotokyie and Nimrod Acquah who spoke on behalf of the group said they had benefited from the practical nature of the programme.

They gave insights on personal lessons they had learnt. Among others, they said they had built their confidence immensely as a result of the sessions.

The project was administered based on a comprehensive curriculum, which covered fundamental life principles and core values.

Topics such as Time Management, Communicating with confidence, Developing a life of Integrity, Leadership, Spotting opportunities and Networking were covered in the 12 week period.

Speaking on these topics, one of the lead facilitators, Rachel Hansen-Thompson also an employee of Vodafone said, the topics were carefully structured and taught in a practical manner to aid retention and practice. She said the project combined different methods of delivery in order to address each mentee’s unique learning style.

The use of audio-visuals, breakout practical sessions, scenario discussions among others, helped the mentees to relate practically to the lessons.

The Dream-Believe-Achieve project continues to mentor children between ages 11 – 18 with a goal to develop responsible citizenry.

With their eyes firmly fixed on touching lives, the mentors are looking forward to another session in the Eastern Region of Ghana in September. Their focus is to get young professionals to give back towards building a healthy society.

The same DBA team organised the Braveheart event which brought together over 300 children earlier in February this year.
