South Korea’s Chung Mong-joon says he will run against Michel Platini to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA’s next president.
Mong-joon is the former president of the South Korean Football Association and also spent time as the vice-president of FIFA. Platini announces FIFA presidency bid The 63-year-old told BBC’s World Football programme of his intention to run against UEFA president Platini, who on Wednesday announced that he would stand to replace Blatter.
"If I get elected, my job is not to enjoy the luxury of the office. My job is to change it," Platini added.
Mong-joon, who is the current major shareholder of Hyundai and worth $1.2 billion (£769m) according to Forbes, added: "It will be very difficult for him to have any meaningful reforms. Mr Platini enjoys institutional support from the current structure of Fifa. Mr Platini is very much a product of the current system."
The next FIFA presidential election will be held on February 26, though all potential candidates have until October 26 to be nominated.
