A member of the President’s Economic Advisory Team, Emmanuel Ablorh, has been chosen to head the committee to re-engage Vodafone over the sales and purchase agreement.
The committee will look at ways of making the sale of government shares in Ghana Telecom more beneficial to the state, following criticisms that the country was short-changed in the transaction.
The re-engagement committee was set up following recommendations by an earlier committee that reviewed the agreement.
Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu who disclosed this also confirmed earlier Joy News reports that Ecobank Development Corporation will serve as advisors to the committee, comprising other professionals.
He said the committee would look into issues of value for money, the removal of the five-year exclusivity clause on the extension of the national fibre optic backbone among others.
Members of the committee have already begun meeting and sharing ideas on best practices from other countries including South Africa.
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) while in opposition, opposed the sale of 70 percent government shares to Vodafone and promised to review the agreement when it gets elected.
