The Black Queens are declaring war on Cameroon ahead of their second leg qualifier in Accra.
It’s an Olympic qualifier on Saturday after the Black Queens held the Indomitable Lionesses – who only recently came from the Womens’ World Cup – 1-1 in Yaounde.
Ahead of the match, the head coach of the Ghana side says his team will play an all-out attack style. “The draw in Yaounde two weeks ago is an advantage. Playing at home is also an added advantage and we will make use of both. It’s a golden opportunity we don’t want to slip by,” Yusif Basigi told the Graphic Sports.
“No doubt, the Cameroonians are good side and they always use their physical strength to their advantage. After playing them on several occasions, we have found the antidote to that physical play and they will have a taste of their own bitter pill.”
Basigi also went down memory lane.
He recounted how the Cameroonians, in a similar position before the last Olympics, took advantage and qualified for the London Games. For him, that story tells the Queens that they have no excuse than to deliver this time.
“Four years ago, [Cameroon] held us to a 1-1 draw in Accra in the first leg and beat us 1-0 in the return leg to qualify for London Olympics. We also have a similar opportunity and we will utilize it to our advantage.
“We’ve never been to the Olympics and this will be our time to also go to Brazil 2016.”
Ghana will face neighbours Cote d’Ivoire when they win the second leg in the final round of the qualifiers.
The Ivorians, who played in the Women’s World Cup, triumphed over Zimbabwe in the third round of qualifiers.
