There has been much talk about Ashantigold's 20-year wait for a league title coming to an end on Sunday if the Miners beat Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
But Joy Sports analysis show Ashantigold can only win the league logically, but not mathematically, in that matchday 28 game.
To begin with, should they win their game on Sunday, the Obuasi side will still rely heavily on Heart of Lions beating second-placed Aduana Stars at Kpando to make their dream a reality
This result will give the Miners a six point lead over the Dormaa based side with two games to go.
AshGold and Aduana both cancel each other out in terms of head-to-head, with both teams winning their respective home games against each other 1-0.
As things stand, the deciding factor will be goal difference. The Miners currently have a superior advantage of +6 (likely to increase depending on the scoreline of both games) over the Dormaa side.
This means AshGold enter the penultimate round of matches with a six-point gap and an added advantage of having a superior goal advantage.
There will be six points up for grabs in those two matches and in the unlikeliest event of AshGold losing all two and Aduana winning all two, we could be relying on goal difference.
How does the math come in?
In the event that AshGold lost all two remaining games and Aduana won all two, the scoreline of the last two matches will determine where the league trophy ends.
Should the Miners AshGold lose all two matches by huge margins and Aduana win by similarly huge margins, the league title could end in Dormaa.
Should Aduana continue with their one goal project and AshGold lose by lone margins, the title ends in Obuasi.
For AshGold to be on the safer side and avoid the hussle of “ifs”, they'd need a point from the remaining two games to put the championship win beyond doubt.
