Journalist Ohemeng Tawiah of Nhyira FM who was covering the murder trial of Baamuhene Gyaasehene and two others was Monday assaulted in court by unidentified people.
The assailants are believed to be residents of Adankwame near Barekese where Nana Kwaku Nsiah and his alleged accomplices, Baffour Gyawu and Kwaku Gyasi, allegedly committed the murder.Ohemeng Tawiah was attacked after he was mistook for a reporter of The Ghanaian Chronicle who had taken shots of the large crowd that besieged the court premises to witness the trial of the accused persons.
It took the intervention of an unarmed police officer and a stoutly built man to rescue him from the mob which visited a barrage of punches on him, while The Chronicle reporter had his camera taken away from him.
The suspects are being held for the murder of 28-year-old Kwaku Boadu on December 18, 2009.Boadu, also known as ‘Father’, was allegedly shot several times in an ambush by his assailants.
A large army of angry residents of Adankwame who wore red and black outfits charged at The Chronicle reporter for taking pictures without permission.
They accused him of being hired by one of the accused persons to take a photograph of a principal witness in the case.
Police reinforcement from the Buffalo Unit restored order at the fully packed courtroom.When the case was called Counsel for the accused, John Kofi Yeboah expressed worry about what he said was unfair media reportage against his clients.He also drew the court’s attention to some circulated calendars which described Nana Nsiah as a murderer.Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
