Police in Kumasi are on a man-hunt for two people they describe as car-snatching kin-pins for their alleged involvement in vehicle theft in the Ashanti Region.
The names of the suspects are given as Ebenezer Kofi Osei, also known as Gome and Eric Aboagye Mensah, nick-named Shasha.
A suspected accomplice, Yaw Osei Latif, who is in police custody, named the two fugitives as masterminds in the latest robbery incident at a hotel in Obuasi.
Police say Ebenezer Osei and Eric Mensah stormed the hotel and forced the receptionist at gun-point to lead them to a guest’s room.
They took his the Nissan pick-up keys and drove off and subsequently changed the vehicle registration and attempted to sell it out.
A tracking device in the vehicle, however, prevented them from getting the vehicle to a potential buyer.
Police tracked the vehicle and intercepted around Suame and feigned interest to buy it for Gh¢75, 000.
In the process, Latif who has been sent by his bosses to send the car to a potential buyer was arrested.
“Two weeks ago, a complainant came to us and told us his car was robbed from him while he was in a hotel. The guys traced to the hotel at Obuasi and then, they went to the receptionist and took the receptionist at the gun point and made her to lead them to the victim’s room where they took the car keys and drove the vehicle away,” said Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko.
While appealing for public co-operation in the search of the suspects, police advise motorists to explore tracking devices to check hi-jacking.
“We want to put it in the public domain so that the public will help us arrest them. We also want to tell owners of vehicles to be extra careful and also fix tracking devices in their vehicles so that in a situation where they are robbed it can assist the police to help them retrieve,” ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko said.
