Ghanaian international and TP Mazembe midfielder, Daniel Nii Adjei is happy about the surprise call to serve on national duty in the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.
Adjei, alongside TP Mazembe teammate Yaw Frimpong, were called in to replace Emmanuel Agyeman Badu and Godfred Donsah who suffered minor injuries ahead of the qualifier in Kigali.
With Rwanda just next door, Adjei and Frimpong were quickly drafted to join the rest of the team.
In a post match interview with Joy Sports’ after Ghana's 3-2 friendly victory over Congo, Adjei was elated with his call up with the national team.
“It feels great because it has been a long time since I came to the national team. This is my second call up so I am very happy.”
When asked about his sudden breakthrough into the starting eleven at TP Mazembe, Adjei was modest and only attributed it to hard work.
“It is hard work and the officials [at TP Mazembe] have seen the qualities in me and they have seen that I can help the team so that is helping me break through to be part of the first eleven.”
The 2010 CAF Champions League winners are looking ahead to yet another title to make it five trophies in the competition.
In July, 26-year old Nii Adjei scored a crucial goal against Egypt’s FC Smouha that put TP Mazembe at the top of Group A in the Champions League.
