Ashgold skipper Lawrence Lartey says he was commended by Avram Grant and the Ayew brothers following his commanding defensive display in the Black Stars 3-2 friendly win over Congo Brazzaville on Tuesday.
The Meteors skipper was one of the three local-based players who were handed a surprise late call-up by the Israeli coach after it was confirmed that midfielders Godfred Donsah and Emmanuel Agyeman Badu had been ruled out with injuries.
Reporters at the game have spoken highly of the display of the Ashgold stalwart, and the player himself has revealed that he got a pat on the back by Avram Grant and the Ayew brothers.
“Being there for the first time and the team winning, I was overwhelmed by what transpired.”
“I prayed before the game and told God to see me through the game successfully, which happened,” the debutante said .
“The whole stadium was filled with Congolese supporters but I did not panic and played a normal game. I met with the Ayew brothers after the game who congratulated me for my performance ,”the under 23 captain added.
“Coach Avram Grant also praised me for a job well done .”
Coach Avram Grant, whose agent Saif Rubie, recently criticized the quality of the local players in the Ghanaian league is reported to have personally shook praised the former Nania skipper for his outstanding performance. The Ayew brothers also approached the player after the game to congratulate him
The Black Stars of Ghana defeated their Congolese counterparts a 3-2 defeat in a friendly on Tuesday in a match to officially unveil the newly constructed Kintele Stadium.
Harrison Afful and Richmond Boakye Yiadom had put Ghana in a comfortable 2-0 lead by halftime.
The Diables Rouges put together a solid display in the second half to draw level with goals from Babélé and Binguila. But Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew nodded in the winner for Ghana with on the stroke of full time.
