Before we embarked on the Rise and Build tour, there were all sort of allegations and accusations from around the NDC circles that Nana Addo didn’t like the people of the Volta Region. That myth and outright lies got magnified when the NPP presented evidence to the Electoral Commission of Ghana about the bloated state of the Ghanaian Voters Register.
Evidence was submitted to the EC of how persons from Ivory Coast, Togo and Burkina Faso got their names onto the electoral rolls of those countries and that of Ghanaian. The NPP team of investigators incidentally started with the Togo register and it came out that nearly 77,000 persons were on both the Ghanaian and Togolese Voters Registers.
This exercise was done by the NPP to ensure that only Ghanaians have the right to vote in Ghanaian elections. Ghanaians knew their economic conditions and therefore needed to take decisions in their elections about who should govern them.
Characteristic of the NDC, led by their General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah, they went on a propaganda overdrive, accusing the NPP of referring to the people of the Volta region as foreigners.
This was a wicked and heartless lie without any merit. A concerned group from the Volta Region had to come out to issue a statement to disassociate the youth of the Volta Region from that callous lie that the NDC told to Ghanaians.
It was therefore refreshing that Nana Addo commenced the Rise and Build tour from the Volta Region. This does not only show the commitment and dedication of Nana Addo and the NPP to not let the NDC cause any disaffection between the party and the Volta region but it was also an opportunity for the party to dispel such dangerous and divisive statements and to consolidate the support and love that the party has always enjoyed from the people.
During the visit to the Volta Region, Nana Addo showed enormous respect to the Chiefs, Queen mothers and people of the area. He told them of the NPP's plans to work with them to address the socio-economic challenges of the Region and pleaded with them to give the NPP an opportunity to govern and they will see what the party can do for the area.
The chiefs were happy with the courtesies accorded them and it became clear that the people know the difference between dangerous divisive propaganda and a party that has its roots in the region and has always shown them respect.
Kwaku Ahedor, a farmer in Dambai had this to say: " I salute Nana Addo for the love he has shown to the people of the Volta Region by starting his tour from here. He has demonstrated clear and good intentions for us. May God bless him and his team."
Voltarians must also be commended for the love they showed to the Rise and Build team.
The Volta region is a beautiful place with fine people but heavily underdeveloped in terms of the road infrastructure and other social amenities. The Volta region will have its rightful place under the Presidency of Nana Addo and the NPP and I urge the people and chiefs of the place to give the NPP their massive support in 2016.
God bless our country.
