Something just changed at Myjoyonline.com, and we are pleased to share the change with our cherished patrons.
On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, some faceless goon (or goons) suffering a personality disorder got us at Myjoyonline to publish an article in the name of Arthur Kobina Kennedy of the New Patriotic Party, the contents of which he had no idea.
What the psycho did was to clone Arthur Kennedy’s name and email account and sounding serious and appearing to be an NPP insider, sent us at Myjoyonline.com what appeared to be a candid piece on developments in the NPP and predictions of what might happen at the party’s forthcoming national delegates conference.
A search of the goon’s IP address at 205.188.168.25 proved the person posted the article from the United States of America, precisely from Newton, Kansas.
In several ways, the masked, mischief-seeking malingerer appeared scornful of some persons he/she discussed in the write-up and of course, we did what we should – alert those persons concerned of the write-up and solicit their responses, (except that we failed to reach Nana Ohene Ntow who failed to pick our calls).
As it turned out, Arthur Kennedy, with whom Myjoyonline has had a very productive working relation, had no idea his name and repute was being criminally employed.
We have since apologized to him just as he has himself apologized to all persons who may have been affected by the handiwork of the shady character(s).
Moving on however, here’s what we have decided to do;
Myjoyonline.com will henceforth demand of authors of opinion pieces seeking to be published on the website to provide a contact telephone number. While the telephone numbers are not for publication unless so agreed, it will enable us to reach the authors when there is need to clarify issues. Failing to do this may result in our refusal to publish the article.
We hope our patrons will cooperate with us as we seek to improve our services.
