Some headmasters in the Eastern Region have refused to register final year students on scholarship due to government’s inability to pay grants.
Government is said to owe Pope Jones SHS, Suhum Technical, Asamankese SHS and Anum SHS, two terms in scholarship grants.
Government is said to owe the schools two terms in scholarship grant. The situation according to the MP for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare has compelled some schools to refuse the affected students access to the dining halls.
“I don’t think it’s fair, the students should not suffer for government’s inefficiencies”
“They owe two terms and the headmasters and head mistresses are refusing to register some of the students who are due to sit for the May 2016 WASSCE”, she added.
According to her, her interaction with the scholarship secretariat revealed that they are helpless.
The secretariat has however declined comments on the accusations.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service Reverend Jonathan Bettey says the Ghana Education Service says it will meet heads of the affected schools to ensure the students are registered for the WASSCE exam next year.
