An Accra High Court has dismissed a contempt application brought by Justice Paul Uuter Dery against journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, two editors of the New Crusading Guide newspaper and Suleimana Braimah of the Media Foundation for West Africa.
Justice Dery, one of 12 High Court judges captured on video allegedly taking bribes to pervert justice, wanted the four journalists and Kwabena Anokye Adisi imprisoned.
He said investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI and the others had disrespected the court and sought to scandalise it.
He is challenging the lawfulness of the video and the legality of processes that may lead to his impeachment in view of the contents of the video.
The embattled High Court said in spite of knowledge of his writ in court, the respondents had continued to act in a manner that indicated they were bent of screening the video whose legality he was challenging.
He, therefore, cited them for contempt and wanted the court to commit them to prison.
But the court Tuesday described the application as frivolous and incompetent.
Justice Dery himself had withdrawn an earlier application for interlocutory injunction seeking to stop Anas and Tiger Eye PI from screening the video.
The court said since the applicant had withdrawn his earlier application for injunction, it would be wrong to commit anybody to prison on the matter.
