The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority is set to begin investigations into an incident at the Tamale airport when a Starbow airplane from Accra overshot the runway at the Tamale Airport.
The incident occurred early Tuesday causing panic amongst passengers aboard the plane.
One passenger sent Joy News a text immediately after the incident, saying, “Scary… was on the flight…sickening experience…Pilot overshot runway…brakes probably failed…front tyres broke into cockpit…airline broke through runway boulders…worst of this, we disembark and national security and armed forces are preventing us from taking pictures”.
No casualty was recorded, a statement from the airline confirmed but said the airline went through the runway at the airport and stopped.
Deputy Director General, Technical at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Martei Boi Atoklo says a team of civil aviation experts are heading to Tamale to collect evidence and initiate investigation into the incident.

He said the aircraft was taken through routine examination and that “this is an unfortunate situation”.
The Tamale airport is still open to air traffic, Mr Atoklo said.
Joy News correspondent Hashmin Mohammed says the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur and some officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been to the airport to assess the situation.
Hashmin spoke to the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Dramani, who was on the plane and according to him, many passengers were traumatised by the incident.
A different aircraft has been sent to Tamale to convey passengers back to Accra.
