Vaccines for the strain of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) that claimed about 27 lives in the Northern and Upper West regions are expected to arrive Tuesday, Health Minister has said.
Dr Ben Kumbour said this after touring communities in the Northern, Upper East and West Regions affected by the pandemic. Ten deaths have been recorded out of the 79 cases in the Northern region whiles the Upper West has recorded 140 cases with 17 deaths.
The Minister of Health hinted that the consignment of vaccine will be air lifted to the affected communities as soon as they arrive.
Speaking to Citi News Tuesday, he said, “we have been assured it is due to arrive this Tuesday and I had a contact with the defence ministry and they are on standby to air lift it because of the intensity of what is happening in the Jirapa and Navrongo situation so that we will be able to contain it as quickly as possible.”
