The 2015 Joy FM Skuuls Reunion has livened up the usually quiet and serene Independence Square, challenging the violent sea waves to a contest of excitement.
The Spartans of the University of Education, Winneba, the first group to arrive here, rightly took the first spot to perform.
They sang with the aggression and enthusiasm of children at play and won for themselves many admirers in the crowded square.

The Royal Gavians, also from the University of Winneba, made a grand entry into the performance zone. Energetic in their yellow tops, the roughly 40 jama team chant songs adapting familiar beats for their own purposes. The lyrics of their songs are not readily clear but you can discern that every song makes the point that their school is superior in Ghana - regardless of any technical opinion.

After about 25 minutes the performance suddenly ends like a power-cut. They hoist their flags and drums while the crowd join in appreciative clapping. The Royals walk out in a straight line looking pretty weary. Their next stop is undoubtedly an eatery where an assault on food will be irresistible.

Accra Polytechnic group called Zulu is next. Named after the South African tribe, the Zulu formed a powerful state in 1818 under King Shaka which defeated the British in 1879. If you don't know any Zulu person, remember Jacob Zuma, the President of South Africa is one.

Wearing the popular colour of rebellion, red, the boys have adapted one of the songs of DSP Kofi Sarpong. 'Nti owura tena yenchen kakra'. It is now 'nti dumsor free nyechen kakraa meaning ' Ghana's persistent power cuts should leave us for good.
Good performance but it will be difficult to rate Zulu over the Royals- this rating will get us in trouble.
Enter the 'Bobo Kingdom' from University of Professional Studies Accra(UPSA). Led by a stout guy carrying a wooden cross the black attired group huddle in the center singing ' I am not moved by what I see". But if you see some of the hilarious dressing some are wearing here, you will be moved by what you see.

The lead jama singer, a pretty lanky young man is perched on the shoulders of a body builder. He is excited. Not too sure if his carrier shares in the same intensity of his excitement.

Nice outfit, isn't it? The many distractions at the Old Skuul reunion.
Arch rival group Katanga from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology enter with such spirited force. In an attempt to boil the blood of their rivals, Vandals of Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, the leader of the group charges his team to be proud because at least they do not study Swahili or Archealogy. Then enter the chant - 'Power belongs to Katanga'.
And while they do this the Vandals make an entry into the Independence Square with a Metro Mass bus full of students. The entry makes huge distracting effect from the performance with the zone.

Katanga make no hesitation to take veiled swipes at the other teams. They have an earthware billowing smoke and have arguably the largest number here. Non-stop and very engaging, they are topless and are waving their yellow shirts. They are perhaps the group to beat.
The Independence Square is now awash with various groups practising their songs while waiting for their turn. Notably the Vandals are paying no attention to the performance at the main zone. They are charging up on their own just meters away.
Oguaa Hall of the University of Cape Coast are dressed in green. Not the largest number but they carry a chant and a powerful voice - the sound of a 20-foot wave.

The Vandals take the stage. They start by completely altering the words of the National Anthem -God bless our homeland Ghana. You wouldn't want to know how they sang it.

And 'Telemo' sweeps through the crowd..
'Gari soakings competition:Asamankese Senior High School, Sogakope Senior High School, University of Education, Winneba (Spartans, Royal Garvians), New Abirem Senior High School and Abor Senior High School.

So Dzodze Penyi Secondary School (Dzodzesec) wins the 'Gari comptition'. Congrants guys!!!
Now it's time for artite performances. Kwaw Kese, Bisa K'dei et al are billed be perform on stage.
In the mean time...

Dance champs. Skuulz Reunion dey pap basaa

The crowd is ecstatic...Fun galore at the independence square.

The ecstasy was at a different level when GH’s favourite stars took over the stage. First was the Abodam man Kwaw Kese, EL, Tinny and many more.
