Ghana is gradually becoming notorious for the lack of accountability of its leaders, head of the Media Foundation for West Africa has said.

Sulemana Braimah is unhappy many things have happened in the country and which have been swept under the carpet.

"We should get serious in this country. A lot of things keep happening and we have no answers," he said.

He was responding to demands by Lilian Nuamah, wife of the late Ghanaian Times reporter for an investigative report of her husband's death to be made available to her.

Samuel Nuamah met his untimely death in August when the bus he was travelling in as a member of the presidential press corps was involved in an accident near Shai Hills in Accra.

The police have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident but are yet to make the report available.

Mrs Nuamah told Joy News' Francis Abban she had time without number demanded for the report but has not yet received any positive response.

Mr Braimah said the situation is unacceptable. He is surprised an investigation of such nature could take such a long time.

Making reference to an investigation conducted by Joy News' Manasseh Azure Awuni, the journalists rights advocate said it was unacceptable for a ten-year-old commercial vehicle to be hired for members of the presidential corps.

The Media Foundation head is convinced "somebody did not do his job right" in the accident that led to the death of Samuel Nuamah.

He said authorities must without delay make the report available to the public

Sulemana Braimah also blamed journalists for not holding the leaders accountable.

"The media talks about issues for two days and that's it. The authorities know there will be two days of harassment and everybody will go back to sleep.

"It shouldn't be the wife demanding this report," he said suggesting that journalists should be at the forefront of the struggle to get the report out.

He said there should be "advocacy journalism" where journalists will say "this is the results we want and until we get the results we will still persist.
