Three Fulani herdsmen have been found dead at Afram Plains in the Eastern Region.

Deputy Eastern Region Police Commander, ACP James Abass says they suspect the deceased herdsmen were killed by residents in a possible reprisal attack.

A clash between the herdsmen and farmers in the area recently claimed the life of one farmer and injured seven others.

The animals of the Fulanis occasionally destroy crops of the farmers and this leads to occasional clashes in areas where Fulani headsmen live in Ghana.

According to the Police Commander, one of the three dead headsmen was beheaded at Abejope while the other two were attacked and killed at Salamikpoe both in the Afram Plains area.

According to him, the areas that these attacks occur are not easily accessible to the Police as residents settle in cottages in bushes.

“The places are not motorable and it takes a long time for the law enforcers to get there”, he stated.

ACP James Abass said no arrests have been made so far but the police have deployed over sixty police men to patrol the area day and night to stop a future reprisal attacks.
