The University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana, would compete with the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, this weekend in the Zain Africa Challenge.
Coming from two West African countries, the teams are sure to exhibit great knowledge in the quiz as this marks the second appearance of both institutions in the competition.
While UDS is coming with renewed vigour and determination to avenge last year’s defeat at the hands of the University of Mzuzu of Malawi, University of Ibadan is riding on the wings of their past glory and is keen on repeating history.
Last year, the University of Ibadan emerged winners, netting the ultimate prize of $50,000 institutional and $5000 individual grants and is bent on repeating history.
Established in 1948, the University enrolls a total of 19,000 students and graduates 9,500 each year.
The UDS on the other hand was established in 1992 and takes in 15,000 students, churning out 1,400.
The Zain Africa Challenge (ZAC), which started in 2005, is the first ever televised Pan African intellectual quiz among universities within Africa.
The competition is open to English-speaking Zain-operated countries.
It includes Universities from eight countries including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
The objective of this initiative is to develop the intellect of Africa’s youth and showcase the excellent educational opportunities that African Universities offer its citizens.
