Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, has extolled efforts by Zoom Foundation to involve children in the campaign to rid the country of filth.
Nana Oye Lithur notes that the move by Zoom Foundation “is an excellent way of sustaining and managing the environment.”
Zoom Foundation is the charity arm of sanitation and waste management experts, Zoom Lion Ghana and the Jospong Group of companies.
Nana Oye Lithur was speaking at the official launch of the foundation last Friday.
Zoom Foundation’s initiative to involve children in sanitation awareness is dubbed ‘Zoom Kids’. It is aimed at facilitating the process of social and environmental sanitation awareness and education among young people and to help them develop good sanitary habits.
The Zoom Kids environmental clubs operate in selected basic schools across the country.
“As the minister for children, the welfare of kids is of much paramount to me, and we must therefore work hard to eradicate factors that hinders the development of child. We must therefore support Zoomlion’s Foundation with its basic and primary focus of creating Zoom Kids to provide support for activities for children in the area of sanitation,” Nana Oye Lithur said.
Apart from supporting activities of the Zoom Kids initiative, Zoom Foundation also champions environmental sanitation management, educational support and health care support.
National Coordinator of the foundation, Mrs. Sarah Kyei, urged support from stakeholders in the health and sanitation sector to support the foundation's activities.
Prior to its launch last week, the foundation has been involved in numerous corporate social responsibilty activites.
The Foundation in August this year partnered with Tobinco Pharmacy to organize a free health screening exercise for sanitation workers in Accra.
Zoomlion Foundation was legally registered in July 2014, as an independent entity with its own Board of Directors.
