The Ghana Medical Association has given government until 5th of April 2010 to settle their call to duty facilitation allowance or they will embark on strike.President of the Association, Dr Adom Winful in an interview with Joy News accused government of reneging on its promise to pay the allowance which constitutes 10 per cent of their basic salary including housing officers.According to him, the government entered into a memorandum of understanding with the association in January 2009 with the promise it will pay the allowance. He said several efforts to get the monies paid have proven futile.Beginning 5th of April, he said doctors will embark on strike every Monday until the allowance is paid.If the action does not yield the desired results the association shall completely withdraw their services on the 30th of April, he warned. He is not convinced with assurances of a letter sent by the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Finance asking for the payments to be made. He said such assurances in the past have yielded no fruits with the explanation from Finance Ministry that they receive no orders from the Ministry of Health.
