The Electricity Company of Ghana continues its crackdown on illegal power consumers in the Ashanti region, with the arrest of 20 more people in Kumasi.
Fifteen of them were picked up at Danyame where 17 people were rounded up last week in a similar exercise over accumulated bills and illegal connection.
The remaining five were arrested at Suame, bringing the number of culprits in the area to nine. Four were arrested last week.
Meanwhile, 11 out of those arrested at Danyame in the earlier exercise have settled their bills.
ECG District Manager, Harrison Musah Yakubu says the company is making headway in its debt recovery programme adding, the exercise will continue until they see a remarkable improvement in their revenue collection exercise.
"We thought that with last experience people would have stopped doing the self reconnection but going out today has proved that we need to intensify this monitoring to be able to deter customers from self reconnecting.
"We don't take delight in doing such things because it is tiresome and increases our operational cost but we are forced under the circumstance to do this exercise.
"As a nation my piece of advice is that if you owe pay your bills promptly," he said.
