Tigo Ghana joins its Swedish parent company Millicom in celebrating 25 years of innovation in media and mobile telecommunications.
Millicom, founded in 1990, is now one of the world’s longest-serving companies dedicated to digital inclusion and access to the internet as a human right in emerging markets in Africa and Latin America.
When Millicom started its operation in Ghana mobile technology was only just beginning. At that time the total number of mobile phone subscribers in Ghana was under five thousand subscribers.

Tigo Ghana, the leading mobile telecommunications service provider in Ghana since 1991, is proud to champion Millicom’s forward thinking Digital Lifestyle vision.
In 2016 Tigo will continue its network investment projects across the country, further build a strong diversified workforce, enhance the customer experience journey and lead the industry with compelling digital solutions, products and services.
Tigo CEO Roshi Motman said: “We are delighted to be part of such a unique, world class group of companies that is committed to connecting the unconnected, enabling access to the internet and empowering people to advance in life.”
“I wish everybody within Tigo’s large family of staff, friends and family, colleagues, business partners, suppliers and affiliates here in Ghana a very happy 25th Anniversary.”

As part of the celebrations Tigo Ghana will be screening a uniquely collaborative video project for the first time, which involves Tigo Friends and Family from each of Millicom’s 14 Tigo markets.
The film, called The Digital Torch, will be shown on 18th December and broadcast on all Tigo digital channels from 12 noon onwards.
Tigo is also celebrating with staff and customers by giving away hundreds of souvenirs and branded gift items.
