For those who allow fear to halt their progress in almost all their endeavours, help is finally here and it is in the form of an easy to read and digest 97-page book.
Titled ‘Cheat on Fear’ the well written book on how to combat fear and all that is associated with fear is authored by Richard Akita and was recently launched to critical acclaim.
Segmented into nine chapters, published by Launchpad Press, with the foreword by Rev. Patrick Otieku- Boadu and an introduction by Mrs Petra Aba Asamoah, the book took a year to write, according to the author, whose personal experiences forms the bulk of the subject matter.
According to the author, Cheat on Fear is a paradigm-shifting book – one that makes the reader un-think and then re-think what he or she is thinking. “After years of compromising and retreating due to past costly failures, I had allowed fear to influence my daily decisions in business and personal life.”
The author continued that in deciding to confront his fears he also realised that fear was not unique to him but a common phenomenon that was denying many to survive rather than live.
“With my back to the wall, broke and frustrated I knew life had more to offer than the routine of survival. My faith needed revival which came out of spending time reading the bible and applying the lessons.”
In this book, Mr. Akita hopes that his readers will muster the courage, realign their faith and face fear, whatever form it may be presenting itself and win.
The book’s prologue begins with a quote from the highly successful and critical acclaimed Netflix thrilling political drama, House of Card: “Most people see fear as elite.”
With this imposing quote the author goes further to ask a lot of rhetorical questions about whether it is a mirage, an illusion, or the realism of fear that has encapsulated him and if there will be any repercussions with resisting it or fighting back.
Going on and on, he explored how the freedom of fear will feel and look like and questioned whether he can free himself from fear’s tightening grip and dominance?
But at the end of the day, he did dare to cheat on fear and to leverage opportunities posed as stepping stones, valuable lessons and face his vulnerability.
While acknowledging that this martial attitude to battle fear will be arduously long and, because fear is rooted, he will require persistent resistance during his lifetime, he is resolute that rather than having fear perpetually in mind, a strategy that will continuously work is accosting fear and redirecting his thoughts on the very fear to jolt him into action, which will ultimately create a greater impact on his future.
“This attitude, based on my perception and experiences, has been the most effective tool in cheating on fear. So guarding my influencers is key. Use your fear as it makes you stronger,” he added.
In the short term, Mr. Akita thinks this book should become a tool that will assist the reader to confront fear, then live a consistent victorious lifestyle. The book is available at Kingdom Books and online at www.richardakita.com and www.tisu.com.gh
In the long term he has designed workshops to reinforce the battle cry with strategic steps derived from life lessons, encounter with failure, turning failure into stepping stones and finally arouse confidence in both readers and participants.
The maiden workshop, organised by Launchpad is coming off on Sunday, 7th February from 3:30pm to 7:30pm at Villa Monticello, Accra. The workshop will tackle self-assessment, work life balance and goal setting and has Petra Aba Asamoah as guest speaker and Richard Akita, the author of the book as host.
