The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), is compiling a register of retired staff of diverse professions to use as an expertise reservoir for the development of the region.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, Regional Minister, gave the hint at a luncheon in Ho on Thursday to mark Republic Day, set aside to honour the aged in society.
He observed that several retired staff still had the energy and the brains to contribute to development.
The Regional Minister mooted the idea for the compulsory retiring age to be pushed up to 65 years instead of the current 60 years.
He urged senior citizens to use their free periods and store of knowledge to contribute to development and not to stoke conflicts.
Mr. Amenowode asked them to join associations to enable them to benefit from programmes targeted at the aged.
He called on the youth to recognize the role of the aged in building current day Ghana.
Mr Vincent Adzato-Ntem, Regional Coordinating Director,) said the 2010 edition of the luncheon, which marked the 50th Republic Day Anniversary, was planned to go on simultaneously in all district capitals to widen the scope of government's engagement with the Senior Citizens.
