Three soldiers from the 66th Artillery Regiment in Ho are in Police custody for allegedly assaulted two residents of Hohoe-Zongo, Mumuni Sibaya and Seidu Magiru, at the weekend.
The soldiers, who have been identified as L/BDR Akosah Sarpong, L/C Joseph Amable and GNR Frank Asukole, were on special guard duties at the Regional Office of the Bank of Ghana, Hohoe.
Mr Wisdom Kudze, Hohoe Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to the GNA, said the suspects are being held to assist in investigations.
One of the victims, Mr Sibaya, who has a swollen forehead, told the Ghana News Agency that an amount of GHc2, 620, a silver designer chain and a Nokia mobile phone valued at a total of GHc650 could not be traced after the attack.
He said the incident took place on Saturday, at about 2000 hours, when he was watching television and without provocation was assaulted by the three soldiers.
According to him, his head injury resulted from a hit from the butt of a gun.
