A house wife from Akyem Aduasa, near Oda in the Eastern Region, Yaa Boadua, has been remanded in prison custody by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court for allegedly using a sharp metal to pierce the eye of another woman, Abena Kumiwaa.Two relatives of Boadua's, Agnes Addo and Akosua Yeboah, who allegedly harboured and assisted Boadua to escape after committing the crime, were, however, granted bail in the sum of GH¢3,000 with a surety each by the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah.Addo and Yeboah are to report themselves to the police daily until the next adjourned date of July 20, 2010.Boadua accused Kumiwaa of being in a relationship with her husband and armed with a sharp metal, she allegedly pierced Kumiwaa's left eye with the metal and took to her heels to an unknown destination, leaving the victim to struggle in pain.The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Kingsley Antwi, told the court that about 8 pm. on June 12, 2010, Boadua met the victim, Abena Kumiwaa, on the street at Akyem Aduasa and accused her of dating her husband.In the ensuing fracas, the suspect inflicted the injury on Kumiwaa and took to her heels.He said a report was made to the police and the victim was issued with a medical form to attend the Oda Government Hospital for treatment.Due to the seriousness of the injury, Kumiwaa was referred to the St Dominic's Hospital at Akwatia for intensive medical care and the doctor, after thorough examination, detected that her left eye was totally damaged.The prosecutor said on June 22, this year, the police had information that Addo was harbouring Boadua in her bedroom at Aduasa but before security men could go to the village, Addo had had a hint and made Boadua to escape.Addo was arrested to assist the police in their investigations. When, on June 23, 2010, Yeboah went to the police station to give food to Addo, her mother, Yeboah was also arrested and detained for harbouring Boadua.The two were subsequently put before court and granted bail.On June 25, this Year, Boadua reported herself to the police and was detained.Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
