Families of those who perished in the Kintampo road tragedy have begun moving to various mortuaries in the Brong Ahafo Region to find deceased family members.

The bereaved family have been trooping first to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital mortuary to locate their loved ones.

Most of the over 25 injured and some 63 dead passangers were sent to the municipal hospital after the accident.

Autopsies have also begun to hand over bodies to family members for burial.

The hospital has been inundated with bodies of over sixty people following a gory road accident involving a Metro Mass Transit bus and a cargo truck on the Tamale-Kintampo road, Wednesday evening.

The driver of the Metro Mass bus vehicle is believed to have lost control after hitting cattle on the road and collided head-on with the truck.

Moses Saibu, who lost his 29-year-old brother, Joseph Sando, in the crash on Wednesday says efforts to find his deceased brother since Thursday has been unsuccessful.

Moses’ brother, who was alive a few hours after accident, asked rescue workers to place a call to him (Moses) before passing away from severe leg injuries.

“They called and I picked and he (Joseph) said I was the brother him, there my brother passed on. So we came to Kintampo [Municipal Hospital] and we are looking through the dead bodies and we have not been able to identify him,” Moses Saibu said.

He is appealing to authorities to assist with efforts to find his dead brother.

Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, ASP Christopher Tawiah has asked commercial drivers to respect road traffic regulations to prevent carnage on the country’s roads.
