Workers of state broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation are accusing the board of bad governance.

The workers are mounting a strong protest against the Board accusing the members of engaging in acts that are inimical to the Corporation's growth.

On Tuesday there were red bands hoisted at the corporation’s entrance with claims that the staff opposed a possible extension of the tenure of GBC boss, Albert Don Chebe but the NMC has denied the claims.

Joy News Editor Dzifa Bampoh reports the outgoing Director General, Major (rt)Albert Don Chebe is already on leave prior to his exit date of May 2016.

The media commission has in fact begun the process of recruiting a new Director General for the GBC.

However, Joy News is learning that the GBC staff protest is not necessarily targeted at Major Don Chebe but rather at the GBC board led by Richard Kwame Asante.

Staff insist they will not back down on their protest and will maintain the red bands at the corporation’s entrance to protest the poor decisions being taken by the board.

According to the aggrieved workers the board has not gone through the proper procedures in setting  up a new TV license division and is considering appointing  a new director and staff for a division inappropriately created.

They insist the procedure requires a review by the government secretariat, the Public Service Commission, Fair Wages Commission and the Ministry of Finance for financial clearance.  

The board is also said to have violated employment procedures by recruiting some directors without clearance from the finance ministry and are being paid with the corporation’s internally generated funds which the staff are against.

Sources say it is unclear what GBC’s IGF is used for but they say it certainly is not dedicated to the broadcast business – such as equipment, and operational vehicles.
