The Water Resources Works and Housing ministry has deployed the military to evict squatters occupying the affordable housing project at Ayigya in the Ashanti region.

According to the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Samson Ahi, the decision was arrived at after several attempts to get the occupants to leave failed.

The affordable housing project started by the NPP administration in 2005 was abandoned due to lack of funds.

The government has however entered into an agreement with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to complete the project.

However, the project has been delayed due to the occupancy of squatters.

Mr. Ahi assures that, once the squatter sare ejected, “SSNIT will move to site to begin work”.

The government has collaborated with real estate companies to construct some 2,000.00 housing units at Amasaman and some other places through PPP arrangements, the Minister revealed.

Sampson Ahi added that an affordable housing site at Kpone has also been handed over to Tema Development Corporation (TDC) which has begun working.
