Mankind originally lived naked and was not ashamed. Until the fall of Adam, man’s nakedness represented purity and truth.
Now man is born into a world that is so scarred by the impurities of our thoughts and actions we must all be clothed. Nakedness have taken on a new meaning; one of grotesque imperfection that we must cover up with the adornment of the finest fabric we can possess.
Man will never be perfect. Our imperfect nature is the new nakedness we work so hard to cover. To be better with people, at a skill or to acquire material wealth is all a part of covering up on nakedness or the other.
In covering up our nakedness or imperfection, the fabric we choose must be appropriate for the setting we find ourselves in and able to weather the rigors of the life we live and the elements else we become bare like the poorly patched potholes on our roads after a downpour.
For some of the quest for more knowledge is the fabric we use to stand out and be properly covered. For others the development of a set of values covers up what they perceive to be their own nakedness. The quest for a prominent status in society can be a good thing but for some people it is their way of covering up an imperfection.
Whatever you desire to cover up, it is important that you do it well. Dress appropriately. Dress for success. Dress in your best.
How do you clothe yourself effectively unless you know the extent of you nakedness?
The extent of our nakedness will only be apparent to us when we look ourselves in a mirror and accept what we see.
Look around you today. Everyday the media exposes the myriad of issues affecting society. Some inspire and some incense and some saddens. But in all of this the question we haven’t asked is how much of this nakedness is a reflection of our collective individual nakedness.
What's your nakedness? Have you looked in a mirror lately? Do you accept what you are and that you could be better?
If Ghana our motherland will be great and strong, we must be bold to look at ourselves, our society and our nation and accept our true state devoid of blame and finger pointing.
In medicine, misdiagnosis is often a dangerous thing. It could lead to unwanted outcomes in the attempt to fix a problem.
Remember that the new nakedness is not of the body but of the mind and heart. What we conceive and desire in a naked mind and heart will invariably be pure and good.
Today I resolve to be clothed with a new skill, a new attitude, a frank acceptance that things must be better and more importantly that I am personally responsible for my own nakedness. You can do the same!
I am Nhyira Addo, The Rainmaker and I refuse to be naked!
Shalom!
