The Deputy Western Regional Women's Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mad. Araba Tagoe, has chastised the former Presiding Bishop of Methodist Church, Rev. Asante Antwi over his political comments against the ruling government.
According to her, the comments by the Bishop clearly demonstrated that he was not really called to serve the flock, but rather to create divisions in the country.
“If he is a man chosen by God to serve and unite people to promote his work, he would not have descended into partisan politics. All chosen Ministers of God do not speak like that. They speak in the fear of God, but this man does not fear God and that is why he speaks like that," she said.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Accra recently, Araba Tagoe said Rev. Asante-Antwi, who had been condemned by all, except the NPP, has an agenda to polarise the atmosphere and appealed to the leadership of the Methodist Church not to entertain him.
"I want to tell him that he is not a true pastor. He must learn how to conduct himself as a vessel chosen by God to save lives. He must realise that the Church consists of members of all political shades," she said, adding that the political comments of Bishop Asante amounted to sacking members who do not belong to the NPP family from his church.
The controversial Araba Tagoe, who indicated her readiness to face the Minister of the Gospel squarely on any platform over his comments, accused the NPP bishop member of playing dirty politics. "We have a lot of pastors in this country but they do not conduct themselves like that," she noted.
She dismissed suggestions that the President John Evans Atta Mills’ led administration was doing nothing in terms of governance. According to her, President Mills' administration has managed to bring down the cocaine trade, which was more pronounced under Kufuor's government.
"President Mills is one of the most honest and sincere Presidents that this country has ever had. Let us support him to develop this nation.
Pastors like Asante Antwi must learn how to preach the gospel, unite people and create the enabling atmosphere, rather than delving into partisan politics. If he claims that he is a chosen pastor, he must behave accordingly," she noted.
