The police in the Northern Region have mounted a search for leaders of a group of youth who attacked the offices ofthe Karaga District Assembly and inflicted gunshot wounds on a number of people over the nomination of Sulemana Husein Issah as the District Chief Executive. The incensed youth went on rampage firing gun shots indiscriminately in the Karaga town forcing everyone in the area to run for his or her life immediately after the announcement of Issah's nomination. An eyewitness, one Alhassan Fusheni, told the Times that it took several hours for the police to arrive at the scene. He said that many people especially, Karaga constituency executive of the NDC took cover at the outskirts of the town during the period. The action, according to one of the protesters who refused to give his name, was to register their displeasure over the nomination of Issah. The irate youth, suspected to be supporters and sympathizers of the former DCE, Alhaji Abdulai Shahadu Sadow, burnt and destroyed NDC sheds and billboards in the town. They accused the nominee as the one who masterminded the removal of the former DCE from office and it was wrong for him to replace the dismissed DCE.The irate youth have sworn to do everything possible to ensure that the nominee is not confirmed by the assembly.A spokesperson Musah Adam, told the Tunes in an interview that they would continue their action until the government revoked Issah’s nomination.Meanwhile, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. San Nassamu Asabigi, in an interview condemned the action of the youth, and warned that the government would not hesitate to punish any individual or groups who disturbs the peace in the area.He said it was wrong for the youth to do what they did and that the security would arrest all those behind the action.Mr. Asabigi said the party had a procedure of ad dressing concerns and that it was prudent for supporters to use appropriate channels in resolving grievances.Source: The Ghanaian Times
