Leading automobile company, Toyota Ghana Ltd, has risen to the prestigious No.1 spot on the 2010 Ghana Club 100 rankings.
The company rose from its last year’s third place to claim the topmost position.
The UT Group of companies, telecoms giant MTN and 2009 winner Stanbic Bank, were expected to fight for the No. 1 position, but they placed 5th, 8th and 3rd respectively.
Auto Plaza Ghana Ltd followed on the heels of Toyota Ghana Ltd, by securing the 2nd position on the ranking.
The Ghana Club 100 was instituted in March 1998 by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) to identify and award Ghana’s best 100 companies according a transparent, verifiable criteria.
The 10th edition of the awards held at the Banquet Hall in Accra, saw IPMC slip from its last year’s 9th position to 26th. The company however maintained its position as the best company in the education category.
Amal Bank was adjudged the most profitable company, Ghana Community Services, the best growing company, Goldfields Ghana Ltd came out the largest company.
Stanbic Bank was the best in the financial services sector, while Dan Adams Pharmaceutical Services Ltd was the best in the health sector.
As was the case last year, the rural banks swept many awards, outperforming some of the traditional and larger banks.
