Huge benefits must accrue to Ghana following the visit of President Mills to the People’s Republic of China, Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, has said.President John Evans Atta Mills arrived in Beijing on Sunday evening, kicking off a six-day state visit to China.Speaking to Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Monday, Koku Anyidoho said a plethora of protocols and bilateral agreements would be signed to secure funding to support several sectors of Ghana's economy including health and transport.“I can say for certain that there will be the official signing of some memorandum of understanding (MOUs) and some final protocol agreements which should see some direct funds flowing,” he said.Ghana is expected to sign up to protocols for a grant to fight malaria, he indicated.Other memoranda of understanding would be signed for funds to rebuild the western rail line and to finish up expansion works on the Kpong Water Works.Skipping UN GA meetingMeanwhile Mr Anyidoho has confirmed that the President will miss the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly underway in New York, USA.“As far as I speak to you now, His Excellency Atta Mills will not be in New York for the UN General Assembly,” Mr Anyidoho told Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, host of the Super Morning Show.Foreign Minister Mohammed Mumuni will be representing the President at the meeting.Over 150 heads of state and government are expected to attend the summit, convened by the UN General Assembly to review the progress of all nations in the world in efforts against extreme poverty, hunger and disease.The world leaders will commit to an action agenda to achieve eight poverty reduction goals by a 2015 target date.Meanwhile President Mills Monday morning laid a wreath at the Tiananmen Square where over 3,000 intellectuals were gunned down by the Chinese Communist government in 1989.The President is expected home on Saturday to prepare for another state visit to Japan, Mr Anyidoho said.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
