The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) has hinted it will lay down its tools after May 18 if the government fails to address its grievances.
A timely intervention of the Employment Minister, Haruna Iddrisu on April 1 saved an indefinite strike declared by the Association in a demonstration of its sordid situation.
JUSSAG said it is not happy about government’s handling of the consolidation of salaries and allowances of the staff of the Judicial Service.
The Association said, “After a painstaking period of consideration, the Judicial Council forwarded the approved salaries in June 2015 to the government for implementation. However, after 10 months, the government is yet to implement the approved salaries.”
Addressing a crunch meeting with JUSSAG leadership, Mr Iddrisu assured them the Presidential Committee was working around the clock to have their grievances addressed.
However, a month and seven days into the minister’s many promises not much has been done so far as the grievances of the staff of the Judicial Service are concerned.
General Secretary of JUSSAG, Derrick Annan was particularly not happy with the pace of work of both the Presidential Committee and the Judicial Council in implementing the recommendation.
He disclosed, “We called off the strike based on some assurances from the government. We’ve had some progress except that as at present we don’t see government’s position on our request.”
“So we’ve written to the government respectfully afford the government the opportunity to respond. With respect to the 18 May date that is the time that we are expecting that the government would have communicated something to us,” he said.
Mr Annan did not mince words when he disclosed, “If by that time we’ve not heard anything then the saying goes: when we get, we will cross.”
