The Auditor-General, Richard Quartei Quartey has recommended the prosecution of some senior officials of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

According to him, the Chief Executive of the hospital and some senior staff should be sanctioned for engaging in various acts of corruption which threaten the survival of the facility.

This was contained in the 2015 Audited report which said, in March 2015, management of the hospital engaged in procurement through the national competitive tendering process for the supply of some examination gloves and other facilities.

Over 30 companies were reported to have participated in the process after which two companies won the bid based on their pricing and quality of work.

However, the auditors found that the bid winners were sidelined and the contract was subsequently awarded to Hascale Limited and Mahasa Limited even though the two did not participate in the tendering process.

According to the report, the two companies were paid on a regular basis when they deliver supplies to the facility in comparison with other suppliers who have delivered supply to the facility over a year ago.

The report also revealed happenings in the hospital which “indicates management’s special interest in the transactions.”

It warned the behavior of the management could result in the payment of judgment debts should any of the bid winners decide to take legal action.

On hindsight, the report recommended sanctions under section 92 of the procurement law which prescribes up to five years imprisonment to be meted out to the management.

It stated the Director of Finance who aided in this act of corruption should not be left out in the sanction.
