A more discerning and knowledgeable youth with a proper understanding of the law, the idea behind a cowbell-NCCE initiative in basic schools across the country.
The competition, which seeks to educate school children on the importance of knowing the law, saw hundreds of students cheer the contestants up to boost their morale before the start of the competition.
The first of its kind, the Abeka Motorway 1 Basic School won the first zonal quiz competition for this year’s tournament.
The school beat three others; Abeka Motorway 2, Salvation Army 1 and Salvation Army 2 to win the opening tournament at Taborah in Accra.
Speaking after the event, Brands Manager of Cowbell, Mr. Joseph Ashong, said his outfit deemed it necessary to inculcate the habit of reading in students while “refreshing our children with all the nutritious variants of the cowbell product”.
He added, “it is important we encourage them to know the laws and become more discerning. We are hoping to have better people to represent us in parliament in future so the need to get these kids to know a lot more about the country’s existing laws.”
NCCE Director for the Ga Central Municipal Madam Cynthia Anima-Boadu on her part said the partnership with Cowbell for the initiative was to encourage active citizenship and instill patriotism among the students.
She said, the municipality had noticed most of the student had very little knowledge about the constitution and national practices and so decided to hold the event to develop their interest in national activities.
She lauded the Cowbell for supporting the commission to organize the competition and called on other corporate organizations to emulate the gesture and support the commission in its subsequent activities.
This year’s Cowbell-NCCE competition will see 37 schools compete in the zonal level before the grand finale on October 5, 2016.
