Police in the Upper East Region have given assurance that calm and peace in Bawku will be maintained in spite of sporadic shooting in the area Sunday.
Regional Police Commander ACP Bright Oduro told Joy News the security forces were doing everything possible to ensure that Sunday’s incident did not throw the area into any more chaos.
As a first step of dealing with the situation, police in Bawku in the early hours of Monday arrested one Ibrahim Mohammed suspected to have started the firing at a new lorry station in the town.
There were no casualties.
ACP Oduro said the police were searching for two others believed to be accomplices of Ibrahim Mohammed.
He told Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng that two AK47 assault rifles, two G3 rifles, 6 AK47 magazines and two G3 magazine were retrieved from Ibrahim Mohammed.
ACP Oduro said Mohammed will immediately be arraigned before court.
