Mining giants Goldfields Ghana Limited has outdoored a one-year programme to prepare its employees for leadership positions.
Vice-President of Goldfields West Africa, Peter Turner, said the programme aims at building the capacity of its employees in the midst of increasing competition even as the company works towards stepping up its production.
Fifteen members of staff have been enrolled in the first batch of trainees.
Speaking to Joy Business at the launch of the programme Monday, Mr. Turner said the company has the ambition to grow and therefore needs to grow the capacity of its staff who are the company’s greatest asset.
The training programme is in collaboration with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
The Dean of the GIMPA Business School Franklyn Manu said the programme will focus on four main areas.
These he enumerated as “people management, technical management service delivery, developing yourself as a manager and as a person and then understanding the environment within which you operate.”
According to him, these were very critical areas for “if you look at most of the programmes that are offered in Ghana, almost nobody talks about how to understand and operate in a business environment. We are probably the only people who do that.”
