There were pathetic scenes right in front of the On Run Restaurant near the Manhyia palace in Kumasi when a speeding car hit a 34-year-old teacher and mother of two, killing her instantly.
The driver in charge of the Urvan bus with registration number AS 6703 X was heading from the Manhyia Roundabout and was descending a hill to the Dichemso area.
Sources at the scene said the car's brakes failed and the speeding car struck and instantly killed Anita Amoateng who was then standing by the road side perhaps looking for a car to board to her destination.
The gory incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when most Kumasi residents had closed from church service and drew quite a sizeable number of curious people to the scene most of whom shed uncontrollable tears.
The driver whose identity was not immediately known reportedly jumped from his car and fled the scene after the car had killed the mother of six-month old twins.
The blood-covered body of the teacher lay by the side of the road for about twenty minutes until her relations got wind of the gruesome incident and rushed to the scene.
Amoateng's body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue in Kumasi and police have mounted a wild search for the hit and run drive.
Richard Karikari aka ‘KK' of Otac FM who was at the scene told Daily Guide the deceased was a teacher at Abirem who lived at Kenyase.
According to him, she gave birth to twins about six months ago, adding that the deceased met her untimely death minutes after visiting her mother who stays at Asawase.
Karikari who also works with the Ghana National Road Safety Commission said the deceased usually visited her mother on Sundays then went to the Central Market to buy food for her children.
He said the late teacher was at the road side in search of a car to convey her to the Central Market when from nowhere the speeding car hit and claimed her life.
