The police have arrested Musah Issaka, a 31-year-old man, his brother, Alhaji Ali Adam, 50 and Ibrahim Mohammed, 35, in connection with last Sunday’s shooting incident in Bawku.
Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP)Bright Oduro,Upper East Regional Police Commander, who announced the arrest said at about 2000 hours on October 3, there was firing of gun shots at the Bawku lorry station, compelling the police to get to the scene to investigate the cause.
He said when the personnel got to the scene, two people took to their heels and left behind an AK-47 gun and five empty shells.
ACP Oduro said the police heard another gun shots and traced the sound to Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Bawku where they failed to find the culprits.
They however carried out a random check around the area and managed to recover two AK 47 guns in Musah’s room.
He said when Musah was interrogated he said he had the weapons from one Ibrahim, a television and radio mechanic who was subsequently arrested.
ACP Oduro said the police retrieved two AK 47 rifles and six empty magazines, two G3 rifles and G3 empty magazines in Ibrahim’s residence.
He said even though Musah and Ibrahim denied knowledge of the weapons, they would remain in police custody whilst police investigations are completed.
The Regional Commander said the police are also carrying out investigations to arrest a culprit, whose name is being withheld, for allegedly sending guns to Musah for servicing.
